About the Item

S-Chair, design Tom DIXON for HATCHES. Italy, 1992 ORIGIN Italy PERIOD 1992 DESIGNER Tom DIXON (Sfax, Tunisia, 1959) A self-taught British designer, he moved to England at the age of four. After a motorcycle accident he learned oxyacetylene and from 1983 began making furniture and sculptures from salvaged materials, quickly gaining international visibility. The S-Chair is now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In 1998 he became head of design and later creative director of Habitat. In 2001 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire.
