About the Item

A set of eight side chairs in turned and stained beech, each with an upholstered back panel flanked by bobbin-turned uprights with ball finials, the upholstered seat raised on bobbin-turned legs united by plain stretchers. The rhythmic repetition of the turned elements and the vertical discipline of the back give the chairs a quietly authoritative presence characteristic of Bindesbøll’s approach to furniture — architectural in conception yet entirely resolved as objects. Designed by Michael Gottlieb Bindesbøll (1800–1856), one of the defining figures of the Danish Golden Age and architect of Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen. Measurements: Height: 91.5 cm (36 in) Width: 51 cm (20.1 in) Depth: 51.5 cm (20.3 in) Seat height: 45 cm (17.7 in)
