About the Item

A fine and unusual set of six George II mahogany needlepoint covered chairs circa 1760 having upholstered seats and backs, the tapered front legs with applied very fine leaf carving, the feet having applied block molding. Gros and petit point wool and silk needlepoint, French 18th century with restoration consistent with age. Ex-collection Tom Devenish. Ex-Collection Walter Stern sold at Parke-Bernet Galleries, March 15, 1941, In addition, there was a pair of Gainsboroughs sold en suite. Ht. 38 1/2”, W. 23 1/4”, D. 25”, Seat ht. 17 3/4”
