Urano Palma attributed metal chair, Italy, 1970s This rare chair is attributed to sculptor Urano Palma (1936–2010) and dates from the 1970s. Crafted from bent and perforated sheet steel, the piece reflects Palma’s sculptural approach to furniture, in which functional design is elevated through geometric precision and experimental use of materials. The chair features a tall rectangular backrest and a distinctive architectural silhouette formed by folded steel panels. A uniform grid of circular perforations extends seamlessly across the backrest, seat, and side panels, creating a striking interplay of light, shadow, and transparency. Finished in a smooth semi-gloss black enamel, the surface enhances the chair’s sculptural presence while preserving its understated elegance.
