About the Item

The original CH24 chair, known worldwide as the Wishbone Chair, was designed in 1949 by Danish design master Hans J. Wegner. Since 1950, the chair has been continuously produced by the renowned Carl Hansen & Søn manufacturer and remains one of the most important icons of global design. The Wishbone Chair combines minimalism, functionality, and excellent craftsmanship. The distinctive Y-shaped backrest gives it a light and elegant feel. The hand-woven seat is made of natural paper cord. The model is crafted from solid black oak. Each piece is made largely by hand. This chair is not just a functional piece – it is a timeless icon of the MCM style, perfectly suited to both modern and classic spaces, adding prestige and a character to the interior. Hans J. Wegner is a world-famous Danish designer known primarily for his numerous chair designs. Wegner had a special ability to combine functionality and aesthetics. Many of his projects have amusing or poetic qualities. Wegner is known as one of the pioneers of Danish modernism and one of the key figures in the golden age of Nordic design. He has received numerous design awards in his career, including the Lunning Prize and the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennial in 1951, the Prince Eugen Medal in 1961, and the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1980. Getam is the epitome of something truly Danish. Excellent craftsmanship, quality and the highest level of service have made the factory known and respected throughout Denmark. This was mainly due to the collaboration with Hans Wegner who helped Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik make an international breakthrough as a furniture company. As a result of this breakthrough, the company had to come up with a shorter and more international name, so in 1953 Gedsted Tang-og Madrasfabrik became Getama. Getama's ambition, after over a hundred years, is still to create innovative furniture designed by the best architects. Carl Hansen & Søn is one of the oldest and most prestigious Danish furniture manufacturers. The company was founded in Funen in 1908 and has since its inception combined handcrafted craftsmanship with modern design. It gained its greatest fame through its collaboration with legendary designer Hans J. Wegner, which began in the 1940s. It was then that designs that are now considered icons of global design were created, including the famous CH24 Wishbone Chair. To this day, every piece of furniture leaving the Carl Hansen & Søn workshop is crafted with meticulous attention to detail. This not only preserves Carl Hansen & Søn's over 100-year tradition but also guarantees that their furniture is an investment in durability, aesthetics, and history. The chair is in original vintage condition. It has paint wear on the wood and some missing string on the seat. The original structure of the chair needs to be reinforced as it wobbles slightly. The seat height is 42 cm.
