About the Item

The Grasshopper is a low-slung lounge chair designed by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm, first produced in 1968 by Ivan Schlechter (and later, most notably, by Kill International). It's a key piece of Danish/Scandinavian mid-century design with a distinctive silhouette: a steel frame with an angled, splayed base and a deep, curved leather (or occasionally fabric) seat and back that sits close to the ground, giving it a relaxed, almost sculptural profile — the "grasshopper" name refers to its leggy, angular stance. Fabricius & Kastholm worked together in Copenhagen in the 1960s, producing a body of work (including the Grasshopper, the Scimitar chair, and others) known for combining industrial materials like steel with soft, luxurious upholstery — a contrast that became their signature.
