About the Item

Four 1980s armchairs designed in the style of Mario Botta's architectural furniture work. Each chair features a black enameled wire rod frame with a pronounced geometric X-pattern base structure — a defining visual element drawn from Botta's approach to reducing furniture to its structural essentials. Armrests are formed by the frame itself, extending from the back uprights in a single unbroken line. Seats and backs are upholstered in a light gray and white chenille fabric with a softly textured woven surface. Mario Botta, the Swiss architect best known for his work with Louis Kahn and Le Corbusier, brought an uncompromisingly structural sensibility to furniture design. His 1980s seating designs — produced through Alias — prioritized visible geometry and architectural line over ornament. Chairs working in this tradition strip the form down to wire and plane, making the structural logic of the piece its primary visual statement. This set reflects that Postmodern vocabulary: bold, angular, and deliberately architectural. The set shows wear consistent with age and use.
