About the Item

Designed by Hans Olsen and produced in Denmark during the 1960s, this lounge chair is a refined example of Scandinavian Modern seating. The design combines a clean architectural hardwood frame with generous leather cushions, creating a balanced relationship between structure, material, and comfort. The straight-lined frame is crafted from richly figured rosewood, with broad armrests and slender legs giving the chair a calm, substantial presence. Black leather side panels are integrated into the structure, creating a strong contrast with the warm tones of the wood while emphasizing the clarity of the construction. This example is accompanied by its matching black leather ottoman, continuing the same combination of leather upholstery and exposed wood construction. We also currently have the matching three-seat sofa from the same collection available for sale separately. Please see our other listings for additional details and the opportunity to assemble a complete matching seating group. The chair remains in good vintage condition. The leather has developed a light natural patina with minor pressure marks, scuffs, and age-related wear. The hardwood frame is solid and well preserved with only minor signs of use. A considered example of Danish Modern seating, where generous comfort is resolved within a clear and understated architectural frame. Jens Risom`s career has spanned nearly sixty years. He began his study of design in the Copenhagen workshop of Kaare Klint in 1935 and joined Ernst Kuhn`s architectural office in 1938, where he designed furniture and interiors. In 1939, Risom emigrated to the U.S. and in 1941 designed the first chair manufactured by Knoll. Risom described the chair as "very basic, very simple, inexpensive, easy to make."
