About the Item

Pair of Bruno Mathsson “Karin” Lounge Chairs for DUX, Sweden, 1970s An elegant pair of Karin lounge chairs designed by the legendary Swedish designer Bruno Mathsson and produced by DUX, Sweden. Introduced in 1969 and named after Mathsson’s wife Karin, the model has become one of the most celebrated and enduring icons of Scandinavian Modern design. The chairs feature the characteristic chrome-plated tubular steel frames with sculptural ball feet, supporting generously tufted cognac leather cushions suspended on canvas slings. This innovative construction creates a remarkably comfortable seating experience while maintaining the visual lightness and functional elegance that define Mathsson’s work. Bruno Mathsson is widely regarded as one of Sweden’s most influential furniture designers, renowned for his human-centered approach to seating and his ability to combine ergonomics with timeless aesthetics. The Karin model represents the culmination of these ideas, blending luxurious materials with a distinctly modern architectural expression. The warm patinated leather contrasts beautifully with the polished chrome frames, creating a sophisticated appearance that works equally well in Scandinavian, Mid-Century Modern, Contemporary, and Architectural interiors. The natural wear acquired over decades adds character and authenticity, highlighting the chairs’ history and quality. Today, the Karin remains one of the most sought-after Scandinavian lounge chairs on the international design market and is represented in numerous important collections worldwide. Condition:
Good vintage condition with attractive patina. The leather exhibits age-related wear, creasing, and color variation consistent with decades of use. Chrome frames show minor signs of age and use. Structurally sound and ready for daily use. Dimensions (each):
