About the Item

Produced by the Dutch manufacturer Rohe Noordwolde, this Model 165 rattan lounge chair features a fully hand-woven construction in the Peacock chair tradition. The deep bucket seat rises into a high, enveloping backrest that curves around the sitter, supported by a tapered pedestal base that flares outward at the foot. The entire form — seat shell, back, and base — is constructed from natural rattan reed, woven in a tight, consistent pattern with a braided wrapped edge finishing the top rim. No visible metal or wood frame is present; the rattan structure itself provides the form and support. A vintage fabric seat cushion in red and white is included as shown. Rohe Noordwolde was a respected Dutch manufacturer with a long history of rattan and wicker production, supplying designs to the European market through the postwar Mid-Century period. The Model 165 design draws on the Peacock chair silhouette popularized in the 1950s and 1960s, reflecting Egon Eiermann's influence on sculptural, basket-form seating that prioritized organic shape over structural visibility. The form aligns closely with broader European interest in natural materials during this era. Appropriate for indoor and outdoor use with proper care and ideally stored in a dry, covered, and protected space. In original condition with some wear consistent with its age and normal use.
