About the Item

A superb and highly collectible pair of Art Deco lounge chairs by Jindřich Halabala — one of the most celebrated designers of interwar Czechoslovakia — presented here in entirely new channel-stitched bouclé upholstery of exceptional quality. These chairs display every hallmark of Halabala's most accomplished seating work: the exuberantly curved, steam-bent dark-stained bentwood armrests that sweep in a full, continuous arc from back to seat, functioning simultaneously as sculptural frame and armrest; the generously proportioned seat with its reclined backrest articulated by distinctive vertical channel stitching; and the angular, squared dark-stained legs that anchor the composition with studied architectural gravity. The dynamic tension between the fluid sensuousness of the bent wood and the strict geometry of the legs is precisely what makes Halabala's lounge chairs among the defining icons of Central European Art Deco furniture design. The upholstery is entirely new, professionally fitted in a warm cream bouclé with refined vertical channel stitching — a detail that honours the spirit of the original construction while placing these chairs at the very pinnacle of contemporary interior desirability. The dark-stained bentwood frames retain their original finish with a richly aged, authentic patina.
