About the Item

A masterpiece of mid-century Scandinavian design, the iconic "Siesta" lounge chair was designed in 1965 by acclaimed Norwegian designer Ingmar Relling (1920–2002) for Westnofa — one of Norway's most respected furniture manufacturers of the postwar era. The chair's sculptural bentwood frame in a rich rosewood look is a testament to Relling's ability to marry structural ingenuity with visual warmth. The sturdy canvas back, elegantly laced directly to the bentwood frame, adds a artisanal quality that sets this piece apart from its contemporaries. Together, these elements create a silhouette that is at once bold and effortlessly refined. This example is exceptionally well-preserved, retaining its original light brown leather cushions. An additional original headrest is included, completing the piece as it was intended to be experienced. True to its name — siesta, the Spanish word for a midday rest — this chair invites you to slow down. Its high back, generous proportions and reclined posture make it as functional as it is beautiful. A cornerstone piece of mid-century modernism and an essential acquisition for any serious MCM collector or design-conscious interior. Looking for something similar? Danish Teak Drop-Leaf Table — Københavnerbord — Denmark, 1960s

The Københavnerbord — Copenhagen Table — is one of the most clever furniture concepts to come out of Danish design. Not named after the city it comes from, but after the transformation it performs: lower the height and fold the leaves for a elegant coffee table; raise it and extend the leaves for a generous dining table seating six. This example dates to the 1960s — the golden era of Danish teak...
