About the Item

The "Mah Jong" modular sofa, designed by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois, is a French design icon that debuted in 1971 and has been in continuous production ever since. A low, fully modular seating system consisting of stackable square cushions and freestanding backrests that can be combined and arranged without restriction, adapting to any space and configuration. The upholstery features a premium collection of multicolored striped velvets, floral jacquards, and solid-color corduroys in shades of turquoise and aquamarine, as well as fine cottons in sky blue and raspberry tones. Each piece is padded, quilted, and hand-stitched, with a solid wood frame. The seat height is adjustable: approximately 19 cm with one cushion, approximately 38 cm when two are stacked (cushions: 95 × 95 × 19 cm; backrests: 53 cm). The set includes a corner piece and can be assembled in various ways Set of 12 pieces: 8 seat cushions, 4 backrests (including 1 corner piece). 2 of the backrests are liftable. In good vintage condition, with signs of wear consistent with its age: some fabrics show slight discoloration and wear, as seen in the close-up photos
