Designed by Misha Kahn for Meritalia, the Morphologica sofa is built from an assembly of distinct modules in polyurethane foam upholstered in Giada bouclé wool. Morphologica challenges established production boundaries, ignoring the traditional paradigm of form versus function and looking beyond the dichotomy of organic versus rationalist to create objects with a seemingly impossible architecture. Concept & Inspiration Drawing incoherent inspiration from the body, Kahn looks past conventional references to human beauty and focuses instead on the wonderful complexity of the interior. Stimulated by the sensual softness of concealed parts, he creates modular, fleshy, and tactile organic elements. Morphologica applies the logic of architecture and engineering to natural forms, seeking to isolate their intrinsic structure. It is an idea sculpted into irregular volumes, evoked by color, and brought to life in polyurethane foam and Giada bouclé wool, capturing the meeting of kindred spirits in Misha Kahn and Meritalia®.
