About the Item

Sofa 3 seats velvet production Isa Begamo, 1950, restored in beige velvet, brass feet. Works by ISA Bergamo remain: mirrors, armchairs and many furnishing accessories that have conquered even a master like Giò Ponti. Isa Bergamo, literally Industria Salotti e Arredamenti is a company that was founded at the end of the 1940s in Ponte San Pietro, a town of 11 thousand inhabitants just outside Bergamo. A manufacturing company crucial for the territory, which in its heyday gave work to over 400 people. To understand the importance of this company from the social point of view even before stylistic we must go back in time and imagine how a country torn by the signs of World War II needed work to restart and build that economic boom that, a few years later, it would have changed an important part of the history of the Italian twentieth century. The fact that Isa Bergamo was not a company like many others is also shown by the story of Tino Sana, a historic entrepreneur from Bergamo and founder of the company of the same name in Almenno San Bartolomeo that, at Isa, took its first steps as a carpenter. In her autobiography "The Orphan Who Knew How to Dream," Sana tells of when she joined the ISA, working in the department she produced for Americans. A work of great precision, to be done always gauge in the hand because the allowed margins were minimal, a few fractions of a millimeter. It was precisely that difficult challenge to forge the character and the same quality and precision in each process to win over the greatest Italian designers such as Giò Ponti and Ico Parisi who, in those years, entrusted Isa Bergamo with the realization of their creations
