About the Item

This is a low stool, made in Burkina Faso sometime in the early 20th century. It was carved from a single piece of African hardwood, and has a beautiful, weathered patina. It features three legs, a wonderfully utilitarian design choice to navigate the variegated landscape of Africa. It displays the original tool marks from the makers, and has a pleasingly sculptural, natural appearance leading to asymmetry in the piece.     Repaired: Vintage repair on the bottom of the seat in the form of a metal plate to halt a crack. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. This is a natural piece, and as such, has wear consistent with its age that we believe add to the beauty of the piece. There are areas of minor discoloration and loss.
