About the Item

A beautifully preserved leather bull sculpture after a design by Dimitri Omersa, produced by Valenti in Spain. Comparable examples were also produced by Omersa & Co. in Lincolnshire, England, for the luxury department store Liberty’s of London. This sculptural bull is a striking decorative object and a fine example of mid-century leather craftsmanship, with its expressive form and rich patinated surface. The leather remains soft and supple, displaying an authentic, attractive age patina that enhances its character. Condition: Overall in very good vintage condition. The horn tips—known weak points—have been professionally re-stitched and stabilized. One leg is slightly turned inward/shortened. The tassels on the tail are incomplete. A rare and highly decorative piece, ideal for collectors of mid-century design, leather art objects, and Omersa-related works. Omersa has been producing leather animal stools since 1927. From their inception, these sculptural leather animals have formed an integral part of the product range of the London luxury department store Liberty. From the mid-1960s through the late 1980s, the animals were also distributed exclusively through Abercrombie & Fitch department stores. While Abercrombie & Fitch is widely recognized today as a fashion brand, it was historically a purveyor of high-end luxury goods and outfitting, which contributed significantly to the international prominence and collectability of Omersa’s leather animal forms.
