About the Item

Danish painted dome-top trunk, dated 1810, executed in wood with hand-painted folk art decoration and iron strap hardware. The facade is adorned with scrolling floral motifs framing a central cartouche with initials and date, a traditional form seen in early 19th-century Scandinavian storage chests. The arched lid and robust iron strapping reflect both decorative and functional craftsmanship, while the original painted surface retains a rich patina developed over time. Pieces of this type were commonly used as blanket chests or dowry trunks, serving as both storage and a personal statement within the home. The scale and visual presence make this an ideal anchor piece at the foot of a bed, in an entryway, or as a coffee table in a collected interior.
