About the Item

Beautiful antique walnut book carousel of exceptionally fine quality by the renowned English 19th-century furniture maker Maple & Co., featuring the distinctive cast-iron base. Because the molding at the bottom is smaller and less profiled than usual, the carousel appears slightly less heavy, and the base is also more visible. Beautiful weathered appearance. Origin: England, Ca. 1900 Dimensions: 50cm x 50cm x H.86cm Towards the end of the Victorian era (ca. 1880), the maker Maple & Co. was the most important manufacturer of quality furniture in the world. The firm furnished, among others, the Winter Palace of Tsar Nicholas, the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, all major English embassies around the world, countless country houses, and large hotels. Everyone of importance towards the end of the 19th century had their furniture made by Maple & Co. The quality and craftsmanship of this furniture are extraordinarily beautiful.
