About the Item

A rare piece by Guillerme et Chambron, from the “Votre Maison” collection: a style, a concept, a way of life. Crafted from solid oak, it features two front doors that open to reveal a series of adjustable shelves. The sides are adorned with two doors providing access to a series of shelves designed to store glasses and bottles, Bronze hinges. The story of Votre Maison begins in 1940 in Prussia, near Lake Masuria. A stalag, a wooden structure born of the war’s absurd consequences, where men from different worlds find themselves together. Among them, Jacques Chambron and Robert Guillerme struggle daily to preserve what matters most to them: human dignity. The war is endless. To endure the present, they devise a plan for the future. Winter 1944: the war ends. Along with other fellow exiles, Chambron and Guillerme escape, cross the Nazi line, and make their way to the port of Odessa, then to the Bosphorus, and finally to Marseille, in France. It is 1946, and France, torn apart by the war, is a country subject to severe restrictions and in need of reconstruction. The two men returned to their original professions. Guillerme, a 1934 graduate of the École Boule, returned to Lille to design furniture for the Atelier Rogie. Chambron returned to his studio in Paris to paint. In 1948, Jacques Chambron and his family moved to Lille, and the initial project began to take shape. Chambron and Guillerme met Emile Dariosecq, a furniture manufacturer, and in 1949 the company Votre Maison was founded. Guillerme designed the furniture, Chambron marketed it, and Dariosecq manufactured it. Together, they defined a new style and established a new concept. The originality of their color palette was reflected in the furniture. Soon, the Votre Maison style became known for high-quality furniture that was easy to move. Guillerme designed chests, sideboards, chairs, sofas, and lighting fixtures—all complementary pieces produced in limited series. Wood, leather, ceramic, and fabric—all designs are sincere and authentic. Chambron played a key role in helping the public embrace this new furniture and convincing them to step outside the ordinary. The furniture was distributed primarily through the company itself, and on certain occasions by architects and interior designers.
