About the Item

A most impressive antique, circa 1880, French carved walnut marble-top top buffet- sideboard server with nicely aged patina. Born in France during the late 19th century Renaissance Revival, hand-crafted of warm, rich solid walnut, exceptionally executed in 16th century King Henry II taste, very well-made, high-quality craftsmanship, construction and detailing throughout. Featuring the original rouge marble top with striking white veining, surmounted by an elaborately shaped hand-carved acanthus scrolled shell crest, over large open display shelf with ornate foliate scroll flourish rinceaux relief plaques with grotesque satyr mask, tall paneled backsplash affixed with floating shelf with reticulated raised gallery, flanked by classical turned column supports. The lower case with inset rouge marble slab and rectangular stepped molded edge, atop apair of dovetailed protruding frieze drawers with gadrooned molding and original brass pulls, over spiral turned baluster-form pillars, two cabinet doors embellished in relief ornamentation open to reveal generous storage space, rising on platform base with large open shelf, further raised on sturdy bun feet. Dimensions: (approx) 75" High, 51.25" Wide, 19.5" Deep Excellent original antique condition. Presents splendidly. Strong, sturdy, stable and structurally sound. Elegantly aged patina over the whole. May have minor age appropriate wear. Delivered cleaned, waxed, ready for immediate use and generational enjoyment!

A fine quality antique French credence cupboard by Eugene Dienst & Fils (active circa 1870-1900) Late 19th century, France, St. Faubourg Saint-Antoine region of Paris, at the time a legendary district renowned for the shops of some of the finest ébénistes (cabinetmakers) in all the world. This remarkable Parisian credence cupboard (dining buffet - sideboard - credenza, originally used for the storing and displaying of plates and for serving at banquets), circa 1880, showcases excellent quality craftsmanship, hand-crafted solid oak construction and profuse hand carved ornamentation, exceptionally executed in medieval Gothic inspired Renaissance era style, one-piece design, having a stepped cornice over dual cabinet doors, each with central portrait plaque among foliated scrollwork arabesques in low and high relief adding distinct three-dimensional qualities, warmth and rich depth. The doors opening to a shelved interior storage compartment, above a single dovetailed drawer with relief shell-form handle. Turned drop-finials flank ornate turned bluster-form column supports adorned in intricate acanthus carvings, rising on a conforming hexagonal platform base where the flowing scrolling foliate carvings continue over stepped molding, having large lower open display shelf against paneled backplate, further rising on sculpted tapering feet.
