About the Item

Available now, this Brazilian Modern credenza, attributed to Joaquim Tenreiro in 1942 during his last year at Laubisch & Hirth, a high-end furniture firm in Rio de Janeiro, before starting his own new chapter as a Modernist designer. This piece is one Tenreiro’s earliest work as a modernist, when he distances from traditional European design towards more streamlined shapes. If you're looking for a Mid-Century Modern collectible piece with incredible history, look no further this is it! A true collectible piece. The mid-century credenza is executed in Cerejera hardwood and is composed of 4 doors, 2 shelves, 2 drawers and 4 legs. The piece has a rectangular shape and is full of details characteristic to Tenreiro work. This can be seen in the delicate brass keys, door joints and shelves as seen in the pictures. Laubisch & Hirth manufacture’s seal can be seen in the back next to the tax stamp of the time. The credenza has only been refinished and is in excellent condition. The piece belonged to a private residence in Teresopolis, a city two hours away from Rio de Janeiro. This piece would look incredible in any modern, mid-century modern or contemporary environment. In the gallery this piece is next to 2 Liceu de Artes e Oficios mid-century armchairs and looks stunning. Size: H92, W180, D43 (cm) H36.2, W70.9, D16.9 (inches).
