About the Item

An impressive and extremely high quality French 19th century neo-classical st. burl Walnut, ormolu, and Brocatelle Jaune du Jura marble buffet attributed to Maison Krieger. The four door three drawer buffet is raised by elegant ball feet below a delicate mottled foliate ormolu band. The doors each display quarter veneered burl Walnut designs showcasing the stunning wood grain with the central doors decorated with beautiful foliate, Rinceau scrolled designs, and the outer doors centered by beautiful urns with richly chased blooming flowers. At each side are striking columns decorated with superb foliate palmette designed plinths and beautiful maidens above with exquisitely chased scrolled foliate wings. The central drawer displays an exceptional pierced cornucopia and blooming flower keyhole escutcheon flanked by plaques of impressive panthers on a hammered background with the outer drawers displaying lovely pierced keyhole escutcheons of elegant swans perched on trumpets amidst lovely scrolled foliate movements. Above is the original Brocatelle Jaune du Jura marble top. Maison Krieger was founded by Antoine and Nicolas Krieger in Paris in 1826. Producing and taking part in major exhibitions of the 19th century, including the Exposition Universelle and the 1849 Exposition des Produits de l'Industrie in Paris. Receiving a medal for their exhibition at the Universal Exhibitions of 1851 in London, and again in 1855, Paris. Maison Krieger created many pieces in Louis XV & Louis XVI styles, 18th century and Empire designs. Maison Krieger is recorded to have been an active client of François Linke.
