18th century period Swedish rococo secretary cabinet in two parts with bonnet top, raised panel doors, three shelves, and a notched spoon shelf, The base cabinet with writing surface and interior with multiple compartment storages in various sizes, supported by sturdy three drawer base and cabriole legs. Timeless and classic Scandinavian design - making it a statement piece in any study or office. Värmland Sweden Circa 1760 All measurements are from furthest points. Cabinet width with cornice 49.75" Bottom Cabinet W 45" Upper Cabinet D 11.75". Inside shelves D 10.25" When lid open D 35" Unlike the heavier, gilded French Rococo, the Swedish interpretation favors an airy, refined elegance. They are usually built with gently swelling bombe fronts, curved aprons, and delicate, sinuous cabriole legs. Crafted primarily using locally sourced indigenous woods like pine, oak, and birch. Many two-part, secretary-bookcase versions feature a "chapeau de gendarme" (gendarme's hat) bonnet top over raised-panel cabinet doors. he slant-front opens to reveal a tiered, stepped interior of tiny drawers, cubbies, and secret compartments often used for stowing private letters or valuables. Outfitted with original or early Rococo cast-brass hardware -key escutcheons and pulls - designed in asymmetrical, leafy, or rocaille forms. Swedish cabinetmakers specifically designed furniture to brighten up long, dark Scandinavian winters.
