About the Item

This antique Chinese armoire has all the right details - impressive proportions, subtle carvings and beautiful original hardware. The tall lacquered cabinet was crafted in the mid-19th century to a streamlined shape known as a "miantiao gui," or noodle cabinet, named for the rounded, noodle-like molding of the legs and frame. A finish of black lacquer accentuates the clean-lined form, minimally decorated only by a beaded trim, a carved ruyi-form apron and a full moon brass lock plate with vase-shaped pulls. The double-door front opens to three interior shelves and two small drawers with matching brass pulls. Today, these classic Chinese cabinets are an elevated way to store linens, books, or household clutter.
