About the Item

Designed by architect and furniture designer Jean-Louis Godivier during the 1980s, this striking French modern cabinet is a sculptural statement that seamlessly merges architecture with functional design. Defined by its bold geometric silhouette, the cabinet features three curved door fronts that taper from a thicker lower edge to a slimmer upper profile, creating a sense of movement while showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and attention to proportion. The bird’s-eye maple contrasts beautifully with the satin black architectural framework, solid cube pulls, and dramatic triangular steel pedestal legs. Unlike conventional cabinetry, the metal base extends completely through the cabinet and remains visible from the rear, emphasizing the thoughtful engineering behind the design while allowing the piece to command attention from every angle. Behind the three drop-front doors are nine generously sized storage compartments, offering versatile organization for books, barware, collectibles, or essentials. The drop-front design transforms each section into a convenient display surface when opened, making the cabinet as practical as it is visually compelling. Jean-Louis Godivier approached furniture with the eye of an architect, creating pieces that were intended to stand as sculptural forms rather than simply serve a function. Throughout the 1980s, his work became recognized for its bold geometry, monumental proportions, and innovative approach to form, challenging conventional ideas of furniture design. This cabinet reflects that philosophy with remarkable confidence, demonstrating how utility and sculpture can exist in perfect balance. As appreciation for collectible French postmodern design continues to grow, Godivier's limited-production works have become increasingly sought after for their rarity, distinctive vision, and enduring architectural influence. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you purchase vintage furniture from Danish Modern NoHo, you're not just acquiring a unique piece; you're also gaining access to our expert restoration services.
