Louis XV Armoire / Wardrobe / Cabinet in Cherry and Walnut, France circa 1750 An exceptional mid-18th century Louis XV armoire from France, crafted around 1750, executed in solid cherrywood with striking walnut veneers and refined inlay work. This impressive wardrobe or cabinet combines architectural presence with the warmth and elegance characteristic of the Louis-quinze period. Construction & Craftsmanship This two-door armoire is traditionally constructed with a solid wood carcass, typical of fine French cabinetmaking of the 18th century. The structural framework is executed in cherrywood, chosen for its stability and warm tonal character. The visible surfaces are enhanced with carefully selected walnut veneers, laid in symmetrical bookmatched patterns that create dramatic mirrored grain compositions on the door panels. The doors are built in classic frame-and-panel construction. Each door features recessed panels framed by solid cherry moldings. The walnut veneer fields display expressive, almost pictorial grain patterns — meticulously arranged to emphasize symmetry and depth.
