About the Item

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period low kang cabinet from the 19th century, with carved scrolling apron and five drawers. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty, this low kang cabinet features a narrow rectangular top with dovetailed accents, sitting above five simple drawers each fitted with a brass teardrop pull. It is the apron however, which attracts our attention with its carved scrolling effects accented with dragon motifs on the sides. The term kang comes from a platform destined to receive people atop, typically found in Northern China and made of hollow brick, allowing to burn fuel underneath to provide some heat. Furniture around had therefore to be low. Raised on solid supports with scrolling extremities, this 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty low kang cabinet will bring a touch of graceful elegance to any home.
