About the Item

A large French provincial buffet à deux corps from the early 19th century. Louis XV style. Solidly crafted in walnut. Two-part, high, laterally coffered, ornamentally and volute carved walnut body with rounded corners and a total of 4 doors on large external iron fittings. Double-door base with slightly protruding top panel, 2 drawers and skilfully crafted moulded plinth frame ending in cabriole legs. The doors are of frame construction, slightly arched at the top with curved panelled panels and carved mouldings. Tall double-door display case top with curved cornice carved with ornamentation and a central rosette and moulded cornice. Large glazed doors with matching curved frames. Great lock and hand-forged iron drawer bolts. Original iron fittings. Inside, the cabinet is fitted with a shelf in the lower section and 3 height-adjustable shelves on "toothed rails" in the upper section. Dimensions Height: 80 cm (lower section) or 257.5 cm (total) / 31.49 inch (lower section) or 101.37 inch (total). Width: 137 cm or 144 cm (headboard) / 53.93 inch or 56.69 inch (headboard). Depth: 36 cm or 50.5 cm / 14.17 inch or 19.88 inch. Shelf depth: 27.5 cm / 10.82 inch. As a classic piece of furniture for the living and dining area, the cabinet is extremely functional in addition to its decorative value and offers plenty of storage space. In addition to smaller items in the practical drawers, the slightly deeper base unit can also be used to store larger items out of sight behind the doors. With its large glass doors and height-adjustable shelves, the tall top cabinet is also ideal for displaying books, crockery or other decorative objects. Additional shelves can also be customised on request. This authentic Provençal piece of furniture impresses not only with its imposing appearance but also with the warm patina of the old walnut wood. Its characteristic design with curved lines, asymmetrical shapes and decorative carvings gives the piece of furniture a light and elegant appearance. An extraordinary example of traditional craftsmanship from over 200 years ago. In very good functional minimal restored condition with slight signs of age-related wear. The surface has been cleaned and re-waxed. The interior has been resealed.
