About the Item

An exceptional Regency Style faux bamboo breakfront cabinet dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Monumental in scale and exquisitely detailed, this impressive architectural cabinet embodies the refined proportions of English Regency design while embracing the exotic influence of the Aesthetic Movement's fascination with Asian forms and craftsmanship. Executed in richly figured hardwood, likely mahogany, the cabinet is masterfully constructed with intricately turned faux bamboo millwork that convincingly replicates the natural joints and segmented form of bamboo. The three glazed doors are fitted with elegant astragal muntins arranged in geometric diamond and hexagonal patterns inspired by Chinese Chippendale design, creating a striking visual rhythm across the façade. The stepped pediment is crowned with turned finials, lending the cabinet a commanding architectural presence, while the lower section is fitted with three generous drawers embellished with coordinating faux bamboo lattice detailing and brass pulls. The interior retains its pleated fabric backing, providing a refined backdrop for displaying books, porcelain, glassware, or decorative collections. At over eight feet in both height and width, this remarkable cabinet offers an extraordinary presence, making it equally suited to a distinguished library, dining room, study, or grand residential interior. Good antique condition consistent with age and use. The cabinet exhibits expected age-related wear, including light scratches, scuffs, marks to the finish, and a beautifully developed patina. The pleated fabric interior remains in place. Please note that the original interior shelves are no longer present and are not included. The cabinet can readily accommodate custom-fabricated shelves if desired. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description, and feel free to contact us with any questions prior to purchase.
