About the Item

This brass-bound campaign chest of drawers was made in England in the early 20th century. The case is built from a dark reddish hardwood, consistent with mahogany, and holds four graduated drawers. Each drawer front is banded in brass at top and bottom, in the sectional style typical of campaign furniture, with recessed brass handles set flush to the front. Brass corner guards protect the case along every edge and continue down to brass-capped bracket feet. A pair of swing carrying handles is mounted to one side, a detail that points clearly to the chest's transport origins. The top is inset with tooled leather in a deep green tone, bordered with a gilt floral pattern and bound in brass along the edges. Drawer interiors are lined in a lighter secondary wood. The case has an even, aged patina, with light surface wear consistent with genuine use.
