About the Item

A most elegant French 18th century Régence period walnut, fruitwood, ormolu, and Caunes marble commode. The three drawers serpentine-shaped chest is raised by beautiful cabriole legs with striking hoof feet and foliate ormolu sabots. The scalloped-shaped frieze is centered by a striking scrolled foliate ormolu mount with a fine palmette. At the center are three drawers, each decorated with richly chased pierced scrolled foliate ormolu pulls set on a walnut background, while the bottom drawer displays a superb family crest-shaped keyhole escutcheon. At each corner are additional richly chased pierced scrolled foliate mounts with charming flowers while each serpentine-shaped side showcases the beautiful walnut grain. Above is the original Caunes marble top with rounded corners and a fine mottled border. All original gilt throughout.
