Rare Queen Anne Chinoiserie Japanned Chest On Stand

Located in Lymington, GB

A sophisticated Queen Anne-period chinoiserie japanned chest raised on elegant cabriole legs with 'pony foot' carved detailing. This early-18th century chest on stand demonstrates the charming and highly fashionable English domestic interpretation of oriental scenes of pagodas, rockwork, trees, ornamental bridges, mythical birds, and figures dressed in the oriental manner, holding parasols and cavorting in gardens. All in remarkable condition having survived some three hundred years. Chests on cabriole supports of this form were also very much in fashion in the American colonies during this early Queen Anne-period (1702-1714). Sometimes erroneously referred to as ‘'lacquer''. The fashion icon Coco Chanel furnished her exquisite Paris apartments largely in the European chinoiserie taste. Unique Design Petitie Chinoiserie Style Italian Painted Commode

Unique Design Petitie Chinoiserie Style Italian Painted Commode

Located in Swedesboro, NJ

This beautifully decorated Chinoiserie petite cabinet or bedside stand is a charming and highly distinctive accent piece that captures the romance and fascination with the Far East that swept through European decorative arts during the 18th century. Finished in a vibrant coral-orange lacquer with delicately hand-painted silver decoration, this elegant cabinet blends whimsical artistry with practical storage, making it equally at home in traditional, eclectic, or contemporary interiors. The cabinet's graceful proportions are complemented by its serpentine top and softly scalloped apron, while elegant cabriole legs lend the piece an unmistakable French Rococo influence. The warm coral finish immediately draws the eye, providing a rich backdrop for the finely painted silver motifs that adorn every visible surface. The contrast between the luminous lacquer and metallic decoration creates remarkable visual depth and gives the cabinet an unmistakable decorative presence. The front features three drawers positioned beside a single cupboard door, offering surprisingly generous storage within its compact footprint. Each drawer is adorned with delicate floral sprays and botanical scrollwork rendered in silver paint, while the lowest drawer depicts an idyllic garden bridge, reinforcing the cabinet's Oriental inspiration. The cupboard door showcases a beautifully detailed Chinoiserie scene featuring a traditionally dressed figure standing before a picturesque pagoda nestled among dramatic mountain landscapes. Stylized clouds, flowering branches, and ornamental scrolls frame the composition, creating the illusion of an exotic landscape inspired by Chinese decorative art. The top continues this artistic narrative with an elaborate hand-painted landscape filled with pagodas, bridges, trees, and flowering gardens arranged in a balanced decorative composition. Similar scenes continue onto the cabinet's sides, ensuring the piece remains visually captivating from every angle. These carefully executed details reflect the European interpretation of Asian design that became immensely fashionable among aristocratic households during the Georgian and Rococo periods. While inspired by antique Chinese lacquer furniture...
