About the Item

This is a huge old Japanese-made drawer storage. The furniture was made during the Meiji period (1860s-1900s) and is made of cedar wood with rustic and practical iron hardware on the handles. In the hundreds of pieces of furniture I have seen, I have never encountered drawer storage of this magnitude. The overwhelming presence of this piece is like a towering “wall” in the room, a form that could be called a work of art. The overall design stands out for its simplicity and thorough elimination of waste. This is why it has a universal beauty that transcends time and is loved by all. Scratches and uneven coloring that have been carved by age, as well as the traces of repeated reworking, give this piece of furniture a deep flavor and story to tell. All drawers open and close smoothly, and the functionality of the furniture as storage furniture is well maintained. It has also been carefully cleaned so that it can be incorporated into your daily life without worry. This piece embodies the spirit of “Wabi Sabi,” which is a Japanese word for tranquility and strength. It has a special presence that changes the impression of the space itself.
