About the Item

Pair of Empire dressers hand-crafted in Italy in the early 1800s using book-matched walnut veneer as decoration. The pair follows the general lines of the empire style, with the top drawer deeper than the bottom two and columns along the front edges of the case. The drawers are all inset with beautiful, large, hand-made dovetail joints. The drawer fronts, the top and the entire case are decorated with book-matched walnut tiger veneer, creating a beautiful alternation of grey, white and lightly pink striations, which were produced by bleaching the wood and showing its natural grain. The drawers all work well, however, because they are large and heavy, attention must be made to pull them out evenly. Overall this is a fantastic pair of commodes that can bring balance, harmony and decoration to a room. Their light color and straight lines give them a very modern look despite being 200 years old, making them the perfect pieces for someone who is looking for an antique that does not look antiquated.
