About the Item

A striking Swedish Gustavian chest of drawers from circa 1790, defined by its crisp neoclassical lines and elegant Greek key frieze carved across the upper drawer. This refined geometric detail immediately anchors the piece in the late Gustavian period, reflecting the sophisticated restraint of Swedish design at the close of the 18th century. The chest is finished in a deep charcoal-black paint with beautifully timeworn variation and subtle rub-through along the edges, revealing a rich natural patina accumulated over more than two centuries. The contrast between the decorative top drawer and the clean expanses of the two larger drawers below creates a pleasing architectural rhythm. Raised on tapered legs, the piece retains a graceful lightness despite its generous storage capacity.
