About the Item

Unique large Arts & Crafts oak Cotswold cabinet with enclosed drawers. Hand written to the underside 'May 1906 John 3 Westborough Rd H. Wycombe'. Made in solid English oak throughout, with the original iron handles. The cabinet is fitted internally with ten drawers arranged around a central small cupboard. The drawers all work well. There are some stains and other marks, mainly to the smaller drawers' bases. The top and the lower larger drawers would have had dividers originally. The handles are all intact with no damage. The doors can stay open if you want to keep the interior on show. A working key operates the main lock, with two brass catches securing the opposite door. The interior cupboard door is missing its lock. Overall in excellent condition, the cabinet has been sympathetically re-finished in an aqua coat, giving the surface more durability and a smooth matt finish, but still retaining a few light authentic marks to highlight its genuine heritage. Presenting beautifully. There are a few marks to the top to note and the left hand side of the top has had a sliver of oak added where the timber had lifted slightly. Structurally the cabinet is sound, with no woodworm. One of the smaller drawer bases has been replaced with board at some point. Its proportions give it presence without overwhelming a space.
