About the Item

Bring impressive scale and sculptural craftsmanship to a dining room, library, or grand entry with this exceptional antique Italian Renaissance Revival credenza, crafted circa 1870. Built of solid walnut, the long cabinet stands on elegant cabriole legs ending in boldly carved paw feet, giving the piece both visual lightness and commanding presence. The façade is richly decorated with three deeply carved figural panels in high relief, each depicting allegorical female figures framed by elaborate scrolling foliate motifs, ribbon work, and Renaissance-inspired ornamentation. The center panel features a seated noblewoman flanked by cherubic figures, while the side doors portray classical muses surrounded by intricate strapwork and scrolling foliage. The corners are embellished with striking carved female caryatid busts dressed in Renaissance armor, adding remarkable sculptural depth and architectural character. Additional carvings of floral garlands, urns, and acanthus motifs continue across the frieze and serpentine apron. The three doors open to spacious interior storage fitted with shelving, making the piece as functional as it is decorative. The credenza retains its three original locks and keys and is finished in a rich, warm walnut patina that beautifully highlights the extraordinary hand-carved details throughout. This elegant, antique fruit wood sideboard was carved in Southern France, circa 1880. The Classic sideboard exemplifies the Louis XV style with a heavy presence, dramatic lines and intricate floral and foliage carvings throughout. The cabinet stands on small cabriole legs ending with escargot feet, over a scalloped apron heavily decorated with a center urn filled with floral and leaf motifs. The cabinet features a pair of drawers across the front dressed with heavy forged iron handles and matching escutcheons (and two fake drawers at the end!), over hand carved laurel and oak branch decor. The cabinet has two arched doors with recessed panels and dressed with oversized iron hinges and large decorative openwork escutcheons (and two fake doors at either end!); the middle doors open to interior shelving for ultimate storage.
