About the Item

An exceptional mid-century modern walnut dining room credenza sideboard manufactured by American of Martinsville, circa 1960. Reflecting the premium craftsmanship and Scandinavian-inspired minimalism popularized by chief designers like Merton Gershun during this era, this case piece showcases clean geometries and advanced structural execution. The rectangular casing is constructed from choice, richly figured walnut veneers exhibiting a continuous horizontal grain flow. The central section houses a stack of three deep, graduated drawers featuring smooth-gliding blind pull under-edges and heavy-duty, doweled interior frames with traditional dovetail joints. The drawers are framed by two grand-scale side storage compartments. The doors retain their completely original, architectural vertical hardware handles finished in a deep, naturally oxidized dark patina. The credenza is supported by an inset structural perimeter apron resting on signature tapered dowel legs. Combining generous interior storage capacity with an elegant silhouette, this piece is an ideal acquisition for historical or contemporary spaces. This premium credenza was sourced directly from a single-owner estate alongside its original companion pieces. The complete, matching American of Martinsville dining set and the magnificent architectural breakfront vitrine cabinet are currently available. Designers and collectors are highly encouraged to contact the seller directly to obtain specific details on the matching pieces.
