About the Item

Exceptional Italian Walnut Desk with Patinated Brass Base, Italy, 1950s An exceptional Italian writing desk, handcrafted during the 1950s and executed in beautifully figured walnut with elegant patinated brass supports. Combining refined proportions with outstanding craftsmanship, this desk is a superb example of high-quality post-war Italian design. The clean architectural silhouette is enhanced by the striking contrast between the warm walnut and the naturally aged brass. Three integrated drawers, each fitted with understated brass accents, provide practical storage while maintaining the desk's elegant and balanced appearance. The slender brass supports and stretcher create a light, sophisticated structure that allows the rich walnut top to take center stage. Designed with simplicity and functionality in mind, this desk offers generous workspace while retaining an elegant visual lightness. Its refined proportions make it equally suitable for a private study, executive office, library or contemporary interior where timeless Italian craftsmanship is appreciated. One of its greatest qualities is its completely original and unrestored condition. The walnut retains its original finish with a beautiful depth of colour and attractive grain, while the brass has acquired a wonderful authentic patina through decades of careful use. The desk has never been refinished, preserving the originality and character highly sought after by collectors and interior designers alike. Although the maker remains unidentified, the quality of construction, carefully selected materials and refined brass detailing clearly reflect the standards of an accomplished Italian cabinetmaker. Original Italian desks of this quality, preserved in such honest condition, are becoming increasingly difficult to source. Elegant, functional and timeless, this desk is equally at home in both classic and contemporary interiors. Condition Excellent original unrestored vintage condition. The desk retains its original finish throughout and displays a beautiful authentic patina to both the walnut and brass. Minor wear consistent with age and careful use. Structurally excellent, sturdy and ready for everyday use. Dimensions Width: 159 cm (62.60 in.) Depth: 70 cm (27.56 in.) Height: 78 cm (30.71 in.)
