About the Item

An extraordinary 19th Century French osecretaire a deux corps with a tall separately made upper cabinet. The top with three curved drawers over double doors with French leather bound book spines, 18th century. Opening to a chinoiserie wall papered interior with one shelf (worn). The sides with tooled leather front box form drawers with flip tops and metal pulls. The desk with a center leather writing surface with upper shelf and a frieze drawer. Lower side doors open to one shelf each. Raised on shaped legs with sabots on the front ones. The wood, believed to be either Chestnut or fine-grained Oak, or a combination of both, is lustrous and has a beautiful time-worn hand. With a key. Dimensions: height 69" width 84 1/2" depth 32" Condition: Please see detail photos. Restoration to the leather and paper is recommended. Various signs of age include distressed condition to the leather top, drawers and doors which exhibit age related craklure and losses. Some amount of restoration is recommended: worn overall,, writing surface and all leather worn and/or torn, some losses.
