About the Item

This striking Bramante 4 cabinet, designed by Kazuhide Takahama for Simon Gavina, by Cassina is an outstanding example of Italian postwar design characterized by a rigorous architectural structure and a bold use of high-gloss lacquer. The cabinet is composed of a modular arrangement of central and corner elements, creating a distinctive sculptural volume with subtly angled sides and a stepped upper profile. Its most striking feature is the brilliant turquoise-blue polyester lacquer, finished to a deep, mirror-like gloss that reflects light across the entire surface and gives the piece an unmistakably sophisticated presence. The minimalist exterior conceals a highly functional interior. When opened, the cabinet reveals an extensive arrangement of shelves and compartments, providing generous storage while maintaining the clean, uninterrupted appearance of the exterior. The interior and all structural elements are finished consistently in the same vivid blue lacquer, creating a particularly strong visual effect when the doors are fully opened. Takahama's design demonstrates his ability to combine the precision and restraint of Japanese aesthetics with the experimental spirit of Italian design. The result is a piece that feels both rigorously modern and subtly retro, with a strong sculptural quality that allows it to function as much as a statement piece as a storage cabinet. The high-gloss lacquered finish is central to the design. Rather than simply decorating the structure, it becomes the defining material of the piece, emphasizing its geometric construction and continuously changing with the surrounding light. Designed for Simon Gavina, the Bramante belongs to the generation of Italian design pieces that deliberately moved beyond traditional furniture forms, combining functionality, modularity and a strong architectural identity. A highly distinctive piece suitable for a contemporary living room, dining room, office or sophisticated interior, where its intense blue lacquer can become a strong focal point.
