About the Item

A Very Good Quality George III Hepplewhite Period Mahogany Serpentine Shaped Sideboard Having Well Figured Top Over Three Drawers With Replacement Brass Handles, Unusually With Elegant Herringbone Detailed Decoration To Stiles Raised On Square Moulded Legs. Sideboards are of course one of the most functional and practical pieces of furniture, as fit for their original purpose today as they were in the 18th century when they were made. Made to stand at the side of a dining room, or kitchen, with the dual dual purpose of storage and table top serving space, every home in 18th century England, large or small would have had at least one of them This particular example combines its elegant serpentine shape, which of course adds to its elegance, with its excellent functional size and the added bonus feature of some really rather unusual herringbone type decoration on the stiles around  the drawers. The brass handles are later replacements but fit the piece so well they they appear original without close inspection. As with all of the items which we offer for sale, this item has been examined and naturally wax polished in the traditional fashion by our expert restorers in our workshops before being offered for sale and is therefore ready to be placed immediately into the home for use.  Circa 1780. Height - 36.75in. Width - 72in. Depth - 28in.
