Marc Newson for W & LT (Wild & Lethal Trash) retail stores, freestanding storage unit or room divider, part of the 'Kiss the Future' series, rotation molded polypropylene, Australia / Belgium, 1996-1997 Marc Newson (1963-), is an Australian-American designer recognized as one of the foremost and influential figures in the late 20th century and the initial decades of the 21st century. Born in Sydney, Newson embarked on extensive journeys through Europe and Asia from a young age. His portfolio spans a diverse array of disciplines, and he embraces an impressive client list featuring some of the world's most renowned and prestigious brands. His expertise extends to crafting furniture, household products, luxury goods, and interior designs, showcasing a mastery that extends across fields such as technology, innovative material usage, aviation, marine, and automotive design. These whimsical storage units were part of the Kiss the Future collection, characterized by a modular display system. Comprising transportable pieces of furniture, these units served multifunctional purposes, seamlessly transforming into in-store shops, pop-ups, and exhibition stands. Marc created a range of vibrant plastic display modules in various colors, including red, yellow, blue, green, black, and white. Their versatility shines through in their practical use. The modular system elements were arranged to showcase and highlight the featured items. When closing time arrived, these pieces seamlessly rolled together, forming a closed box to cover the interiors of the compartments. The storage case was designed with functionality in mind and aimed to fully utilize the technical capabilities of the material used in its production. This module was crafted through the rotation molding process, utilizing polypropylene as the foundational material. Therefore, the furniture has obtained a durable and impact resistant character and the creation of hollow forms with large proportions without the need for additional assembly was possible. The black sideboard bears two apertures dominated by a streamlined and curvilinear arrangement. The piece is signed with 'W.&.L.T. shop concept designed by Marc Newson W.&.L.T. Kiss the Future'.
