About the Item

Made in Sweden in the early nineteenth century, around 1820, this tall bookcase has adjustable shelves, a repainted black exterior, and a blue interior. The bookcase provides shelf storage for books or display, with adjustable shelves that allow the spacing to be set to suit different contents. The repainted black exterior gives a strong, uniform surface, while the blue interior provides a contrasting accent behind the shelves. Suited to a study, library, sitting room, or hall, the bookcase offers generous storage and display for books or objects. Its early nineteenth-century date and painted finish give it period character. Suited to both period and plainer modern interiors, the bookcase combines practical storage with decorative form. As a tall Swedish bookcase with adjustable shelves and a black-and-blue painted scheme, it offers flexible book or display storage together with the strong, graphic character of Swedish painted furniture.
