About the Item

A striking Italian Art Deco Rationalist tea cart dating from the 1930s, distinguished by its elegant balance of geometric forms and luxurious materials. The two-tier structure is crafted from beautifully figured walnut burl veneer, displaying dramatic mirrored grain patterns that lend each shelf a unique decorative character. The streamlined tubular metal frame, finished in a satin nickel or chrome plating, embodies the functional elegance of the Italian Rationalist movement. Four spherical metal finials secure the upper shelf, creating a refined architectural rhythm, while the substantial tubular handle and original castors emphasize the cart's practical purpose and machine-age aesthetic. The restrained palette of warm burl walnut contrasted with cool metal surfaces is characteristic of sophisticated Italian decorative arts of the interwar period, recalling the work produced by leading Milanese cabinetmakers and architects influenced by Rationalism. Elegant from every angle, the cart functions equally well as a drinks trolley, serving cart, or sculptural side table.
