About the Item

Elegant French side table from the 1940s, crafted in solid oak with a softly bleached finish and retaining its original glass top. The design is defined by a refined balance between rustic materiality and sculptural line. The circular top is composed of a thick oak structure with visible, expressive grain, protected by a flush round glass plate. At the center, a discreet brass element secures the glass, functioning both as a structural device and as a subtle decorative accent. The warm patina of the brass contrasts beautifully with the pale oak and the cool transparency of the glass. The base features three gracefully curved legs, tapering toward the floor in a dynamic, almost organic gesture. Their sinuous profile and slightly splayed stance give the table a sense of lightness and movement, while the central block construction ensures stability. The underside reveals traditional craftsmanship and honest construction details consistent with mid-20th-century French production. The bleached oak finish enhances the natural grain patterns, creating a soft, textured surface that evokes southern French interiors. The combination of solid oak, sculptural legs, and restrained ornamentation suggests a piece that may be associated with a Provençal or regional French workshop of the 1940s, where vernacular tradition met early modern sensibility. Both decorative and functional, this table works beautifully as a side table, occasional table, or refined bedside piece. Its proportions and material palette allow it to integrate seamlessly into rustic, modern, or contemporary interiors.
