About the Item

René Drouet French Mid-Century Iron And Mirror Table Attributed to René Drouet, this French mid-century circular table presents a light, architectural silhouette in painted wrought iron enriched with gilt highlights, and should also be understood within a broader Gilbert Poillerat style tradition of refined Parisian ironwork furniture. The design centers on a round mirrored top framed by a black églomisé-style border decorated with a continuous gilt looped motif, set within a warm gilt-edged surround that reads as a slender gallery from above. Beneath the top, scrolling iron brackets form an encircling frieze punctuated by rosette-like appliqués, while the base resolves into four vertical supports fitted with diamond lattice panels, each crowned with a small stylized floral finial and terminated in turned, adjustable foot elements that give the piece a deliberately “salon” character. A circular meshed metal shelf ties the legs together low on the base, adding both rigidity and a secondary display surface, while arched stretchers sweep between the legs to echo the curvature of the top. The overall effect is a deliberate mix of neoclassical revival ornament and streamlined mid-century proportion—an urbane decorative table suited to the French decorator tradition associated with Drouet, and closely aligned in spirit to Poillerat’s celebrated language of gilded iron scrollwork and disciplined symmetry.
