About the Item

Commanding in scale and exceptionally ornate, this antique Louis XV-style center table was designed to be admired from every direction. Crafted in Provence, France, circa 1870, the freestanding salon table features an elaborately hand-carved walnut base with a warm, time-softened gilt and bleached patinated finish. The deeply scalloped and serpentine apron is richly decorated on all four sides with pierced floral cartouches, scrolling acanthus leaves, shell motifs, flower garlands, and finely carved latticework panels. Each corner flows into an elegant cabriole leg embellished with sculpted floral medallions, trailing foliage, and pronounced Rococo scrollwork before terminating in distinctive hoof-form feet. The base supports a substantial shaped brecciated marble top with rounded corners and a molded edge. Its dramatic composition of black, charcoal, ivory, cream, and golden-beige veining creates a striking contrast against the richly carved walnut structure. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this impressive French table could serve as a grand center table, library table, writing table, or statement console in an entry hall, living room, study, or formal salon.
