About the Item

This unique and original work of art was sculpted by Michel Kiriliuk. Born in France and self-taught, this sculptor, interior designer, and painter describes himself as an ultra-baroque, futuristic, and constructivist creator. Kiriliuk uses brass, iron, and glass enhanced with brass and silver solder to achieve a truly sculptural effect. The glass slab is cast on a bed of sand, with a thickness of 22 to 70 mm, before being engraved, crushed, and polished. The artist also works with shagreen, scales, and rock crystals. A simple sculpture Each of Kiriliuk's works is unique and original. The artist uses direct techniques. He is the sole creator of his works, despite the variety of techniques he employs: arc welding, silver soldering, brass soldering, acid patina, engraving, and polishing thick glass plates. Michel Kiriliuk was born in Casablanca in 1952 to a Russian father and Italian mother. He left school at 16 to learn a trade in a workshop. He trained as a cabinetmaker and soon began restoring antique pieces. The first piece of furniture he designed was an aluminum bar purchased by American collectors. Since then, Michel Kiriliuk has been a designer, sculptor, and interior architect. Kiriliuk's work stands apart from artistic movements; it is truly original and multifaceted. Each piece of furniture, each object, each sculpture is unique.
